Hemp producers' conference brings professionals to Binghamton - WBNG-TV

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — Farmers, business leaders, public officials and others gathered in Binghamton Wednesday to get a feel for what it takes to be a hemp producer.

The fast-growing industry attracted many companies to the Southern Tier and many of them met for a hemp producers’ conference at Cornell Cooperative Extension.

Experts say hemp is a cash crop and could help our society become more sustainable.

“It has to be of equal quality and price, but if we can replace fossil-fuel based product with agriculturally based, bio-based products, then I think we should move toward that,” says Horticulture Professor at Cornell University Larry Smart.

Topics of discussion at the event included legal issues, production and regulation regarding the hemp-growing industry.
