Hemp may be a resurfacing crop and Wisconsin has a history of production.
“Back when it was legal, we were the second largest hemp state after Kentucky and [we’re getting to be] in that same boat,” said Paul Mitchell, Economist with University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Mitchell says the university is sending out results of a grower-survey soon on yields, prices and returns.
“I was amazed at the numbers,” said Mitchell. “[When it comes to] CBD production, some of those people can be pulling in over $50,000 [an acre] in take-home pay. However, they’re spending $9,000 to $12,000 an acre in cost.”
Mitchell says those numbers are for small operations.
