Yup. Hemp is very in right now, I tell ya.
West Elm just announced that they’re now offering a full collection of hemp bedding material – including sheets, duvets and a coverlet. This makes them the most recognizable retailer to do so.
The Fair Trade Certified™ collection leads the ever-changing industry in bringing hemp to market as a bedding material.
“Hemp’s reduced environmental footprint, breathability and relaxed look and feel is well-suited for customers looking for a natural, more eco-friendly fabric for their home,” said Jeffrey Hannoosh, SVP of product design and development at West Elm.
Hemp is considered to have a low environmental impact because growing it requires much less water and land than conventional bedding materials, and it usually doesn’t require the use of pesticides. For this collection, West Elm blended hemp with 100 percent cotton for a softer feel than the sometimes course material, and used plant dyes for all of their color options: Hazy Blue, Misty Grey and Desert Flax.
With the addition of hemp, West Elm now offers nine materials in its bedding assortment: Beglian flax linen, cotton jersey, velvet, TENCEL™, organic cotton, organic washed cotton percale, organic cotton percale and organic cotton sateen.
